Special dulcimers are built using more exotic woods. The fret boards are overlaid with imported hardwoods such as ebony, rosewood, zircote, bocote, etc... Tuners are black chrome or gold plated Gotoh's with a 16:1 ratio. Some also have natural bone nuts and bridges. Call for current availability and prices. I have a limited supply of chestnut, birch, and birds eye maple that has been reclaimed from the bottom of Lake Superior. This wood was at least 100 years old when it was cut and has been on the lake bottom for at least another 100 years. The resonance of the chestnut has been outstanding. This wood is very stable and dense. Call for pricing.
